SOCIAL & SPORTING EVENTS CALENDAR NOVEMBER 2016
November 5th - Lewes Bonfire Night Celebration, East Sussex– One of the biggest celebrated 5th November Event’s in the World is held in the usually peaceful county town of Lewes in East Sussex and features six separate Bonfire Societies from various parts of the town, all participating in a spectacular ‘torchlight procession’ culminating in the lighting of the bonfires and big fireworks display.
November 6th - London to Brighton - Veteran Car Run - The longest-running motoring event in the world and 2016 marks the 120th anniversary of the very first Run. The event nowadays represents a rare opportunity for participants to take their extraordinary automobiles on this historic 60-mile journey from Hyde Park in central London to the seafront in the Sussex resort of Brighton.
November 11th - Horse Racing and Country Fair, Cheltenham Race Course(ends 13th) Featuring the Bet Victor Gold Cup (Saturday 12th). The Open weekend at Cheltenham race course provides three days of adrenalin packed action to enjoy at the Home of Jump racing as well as The Open Countryside Day’ a unique country fair (Friday 11th) with a range of displays and demonstrations covering many equine and other country pursuits.
November 12th - International Rugby – England v South Africa, Twickenham England's opening fixture in their Old Mutual Wealth Series sees Eddie Jones' side welcome southern hemisphere giants South Africa to Twickenham for what should be a cracking rugby test match. England's exciting new side will want to build momentum to overcome the physical prowess of the Springboks, who always provide a stern test for England whenever these two rugby heavyweights lock horns.
November 13th - Remembrance Sunday - ‘Wear your poppy with pride’ - Each year, on the second Sunday of November, The Queen and members of the Royal Family join current and former members of the services at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday, a time to pay tribute to the dead of the UK and Commonwealth.
November 13th - Motor Racing – Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, Sao Paulo - The penultimate race of the Formula 1 World Championship is likely to serve up outstanding entertainment when the Formula 1 carnival arrives in Brazil at this iconic track with the leading lights from Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, Williams and McLaren all aiming to take the top step on the podium when the chequered flag falls.
November 13th - Motor Cycling – Moto GP, Valencia, Spain . Back in the heartland of Europe at the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana the season finishes off in style. Last year events at the penultimate race, spiced up the final standings of the title race, and we wait with baited breath to see who secures top honours in 2016 will it be Jorje Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi or Marc Marquez ?
November 19th - International Rugby – England v Fiji, Twickenham Eddie Jones' England will get the annual feast of autumn international rugby under way by going head-to-head with old rivals Fiji and will be eager to continue their 2016 autumn series with a win but against the attacking prowess of Fiji, England will need to show their true potential to overcome their opposition from down under.
November 25th - International Tennis – Davis Cup finals (until 27th) The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format.
November 26th - Horse Racing – Hennessy Gold Cup, Newbury - The 60th running of the race will see top class Jump racing and offers a wonderful social occasion for race goers to dress up in your winter finery. Run over 3 miles and 2½ furlongs, the £200,000 Hennessy Gold Cup is one of racing’s biggest tests for horse and jockey, won by many of our best loved stars including Mandarin, Arkle and Denman.
November 27th – Motor Racing - Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Yas Marina Circuit - This is one of the most celebrated races of the Formula 1 season and will be especially popular with fans in 2016 being the final race of the season. The Yas Marina Circuit is also a favourite with the drivers who can reach incredible speeds with their tyres just inches from the ‘Gulf sands’ of the Emirati desert and where the rich and famous flock to be a part of the World’s most expensive sport
November 28th - International Rugby – England v Argentina, Twickenham – This is the penultimate match against the Southern Hemisphere teams taking part in this’ Old Mutual Health International series’ and will see England face a tough physical encounter with Argentina, renowned for the physicality of their pack and their brute force in the tackle.
