There are various Commons which are nearby which are ideal for Hacking out., Notably Frensham Common and Hankley. Also the Greensand Way is within the locality
Frensham Great Pond and Common covers roughly 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of attractive countryside, lying midway between Farnham and Hindhead on either side of the A287. Frensham Common is owned by the National Trust, but most of the land is managed by Waverley Borough Council. The Common is made up of a large area of heathland, together with some coniferous and mixed woodland, and two large ponds, known as Frensham Great and Little Ponds, which were built in the Middle Ages to provide fish for the Bishop of Winchester's estate.
Hankley Common is part of MOD's Longmoor Training Area, with public access available - with the usual caveats of not interrupting active military training (and don't touch strange metal objects!).
The common won a Forest of Excellence award in 1996, reflecting landscape, wildlife conservation and public access. The area constitutes some of the finest remaining heathland in Southern England.
The Greensand Way follows the ridge of greensand rock across Surrey and Kent, to the edges of Romney Marsh and almost to the Kent coast. The Greensand ridge runs broadly parallel to and south of the North Downs ridge. It traverses two areas designated as areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Hindhead to Leith Hill in Surrey and the Sevenoaks ridge from the Kent-Surrey Border to Borough Green in Kent). Much of the walk is accessible by public transport.
